A SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE SRA NRF STUDY MISSION 2018,
LED BY SINGAPORE RETAILERS ASSOCIATION (SRA)
WITH 34 RETAILERS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS.
The local Delegation comprising senior management level representatives from 15 SMES,
5 non-SMEs and officials from SPRING Singapore, International Enterprises and Singapore
Tourism Board have returned after attending the annual National Retail Federation’s (NRF)
Retail BIG Show 2018 from 14-16 January 2018.
The NRF Retail BIG Show is a three-day business conference that offers education,
networking, and a showcase of technologies and solutions for the retail industry and
brings together the largest gathering of industry executives for discussions of the latest
industry trends and gives attendees an unparalleled view into how retail brands of all
sizes are transforming themselves for the digital age.
Delegates also met with leading Retailers in New York from Lord & Taylor,
Vera Bradley, Wolf & Badger, Nike, Samsung. They also enjoyed guided tours by the
management team at The Shops at Columbus Circle, Brookfield Place, Westfield
World Trade Centre and the New York Times.
Retailers gleaned invaluable insights, enjoyed a time of fruitful networking sessions
and enjoyed private tours throughout the trip. It was a resounding
success and we look forward to conducting more trips in the future.
Learning from visionaries in Retail
The Study Mission achieved the following objectives:-
a. Study the latest consumer and technology trends affecting the retail trade in the
US and establish valuable contacts with potential technology vendors offering innovative
retail technologies which can be applied in Singapore
b. Learn through visits to retail stores which have adopted technology to enhance customer
experience and improve productivity, and learn about the obstacles faced in building an
omni-channel retail business model
c. Learn from best-in-class retailers in the areas of brand storytelling, service excellence,
strategic advertising, retail innovation and omni-channel customer engagement.

Bringing Home the Best from New York’s Retail Scene
Based in the US, the National Retail Federation (NRF) is the world’s largest retail trade
association, representing US retailers. Its members include department stores, specialty
retailers, internet retailers and grocery stores. NRF’s Retail BIG Show is a three-day business
conference that offers education, networking, and a showcase of technologies and solutions for
the retail industry.
The three-day conference commenced on January 14, 2018, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
in New York City. A renowned line up of the keynote speakers included:
An estimated 35,000 participants were in attendance with 18,000 Retailers coming from 3,500
companies across 95 countries across the Globe.
In line with the Retail Industry Transformation Map, this study mission immersed retailers
in first-hand case studies and offer rich conversations with international counterparts who
have succeeded in transforming their retail businesses in the evolving retail landscape.
SRA works closely with SPRING Singapore in encouraging our local retailers to upgrade
and go digital. This study mission is part of SRA’s efforts to drive industry transformation
and strengthen the support for our local retailers.

Crocs, CYC, Gryphon Tea, Klosh, Luzerne, Megafash. Audaash/Save My Bag, Norbreeze
(represents brands such as Pandora, Timberland, Bering, Danile Wellington and Cocomi),
Pet Lovers, Phoon Huat Pte Ltd, Pire Senses (distributor for Yankee Candle, Millefriori and Candle Warmers),
Star Furniture and Wing Tai.
The Study Mission was lead by Ms. Rose Tong, Executive Director of the Singapore Retailers Association.
Imperative for Homegrown Retailers to Learn, Adapt and Adopt
With the sweeping age of fast-evolving consumer trends, our local businesses are required
to seek more efficient and innovative ways to supplement their business models to stay
ahead of the competition. Amongst the list of the 34 delegates on this

The Singapore Retailers Association remains committed to championing the industry’s
interests and assisting our members in overcoming the challenges of a trying economic landscape.
This study mission is one of the many upcoming initiatives the Association has planned as part of
the Local Enterprise & Association Development (LEAD) project journey.
